EXAMPLE 1: Chief Financial Officer

Overview: Teclison was founded with the vision of assembling leading scientists, advisors, and other leaders with significant pharmaceutical expertise to develop ground breaking therapies for cancer. 

 

Background to the search: Teclison were seeking to appoint a CFO to help them with their fundraising process and through to IPO and beyond. Over the previous six months, the client had been unable to identify the right CFO with both the sector and experience required who was able to start on a fractional basis but also deliver the required solution long term. Due to a tight budget the mandate was to hire a CFO initially on a part time basis to prepare and complete a successful pre-IPO round, prior to the same CFO going full time once successful fundraising was completed and to take them through to IPO. 

The solution: Our recommendations were based on the information & key requirements shared by the Founder, CEO and Board of Directors. In this case we recommended a methodology to complete a US wide targeted search (No Advertised Search). Nexus Point executed this search on a direct headhunting basis utilizing our unique digital mapping process that provides access to 92.7% of the CFO talent marketplace, covering all relevant competitors and other potentially relevant Companies across the complete Biotech sector to source the best possible candidate for the job.  

 

The process: Once a Target-list of companies and candidates had been identified (195 in this instance - within an hour), the headhunting process was conducted with utmost discretion and candidates were not advised that the campaign was being conducted on behalf of the Client until a clear outline commitment was established. Every care was taken not to contact any company that the client identified as carrying a potential conflict of interest. As the client was specific in its requirements for their desired candidate, emphasis was placed on finding individuals who, in addition to having the relevant experience and expertise, had behavioural traits that would ensure as close fit as possible, both for the role and for the corporate culture of the company.
 

The outcome: 24 hours – Candidate mapping completed, and outreach started 48 hours – Three candidates sent to the client and interviews arranged. Within seven days the client had interviewed all three via video calls and met with the outstanding candidate face to face with a verbal commitment from both to proceed. After negotiation with all parties, it was agreed that the preferred candidate would start full time on a permanent basis on a reduced salary with a base increase, bonus and equity agreed upon completing a successful fundraise and future IPO. Within 6 weeks of the CFO starting, a successful multi-million-dollar fundraising round was completed, and the company are on course for an IPO later this year.
