EXAMPLE 3: Chief Financial Officer

Overview: MAIA Biotechnology, Inc. is a targeted therapy, immune-oncology company, focused on development of first-in-class drugs with novel mechanisms of action that are intended to meaningfully improve and extend the lives of people with cancer  

 

Background to the search: MAIA were seeking to appoint a CFO to assist with the preparation for an IPO within a short timeline. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the intended incoming CFO had pulled out of joining the company after serving a long notice period prior to joining MAIA for personal reasons which left them without a CFO. Now, an experienced CFO was required to come on board quickly to prepare and guide them through the IPO process within 6 months and become the full time CFO long term after the company went Public. Initially, internal networks and generalist search firms had failed to find the right caliber of candidate required to meet the specific sector and previous IPO experience within the timeframe involved. 
   

The solution: Our recommendations were based on the information & key requirements shared by the CEO, COO and Chief Scientific Officer. We recommended a methodology to complete a US wide targeted search (No Advertised Search) and executed this search on a direct headhunting basis utilizing our unique digital mapping process that provides access to 92.7% of the CFO talent marketplace, covering all relevant competitors and other potentially relevant Companies across the complete Biotech sector to source the best possible candidate for the job.    

 

The process: Our recommendations were based on the information & key requirements shared by the CEO, COO and Chief Scientific Officer. We recommended a methodology to complete a US wide targeted search (No Advertised Search) and executed this search on a direct headhunting basis utilizing our unique digital mapping process that provides access to 92.7% of the CFO talent marketplace, covering all relevant competitors and other potentially relevant Companies across the complete Biotech sector to source the best possible candidate for the job. 
 

The outcome: 24 hours – Candidate mapping completed, and outreach started. 72 hours – Six candidates sent to the client and interviews arranged. Within seven days the client had interviewed three shortlisted candidates via video and within another seven days an offer had been extended to the preferred candidate who was in a position to start immediately. Within 14 days of instruction the candidate started on a contractual basis immediately for an initial 3-month period. However, after 4 successful weeks, the client and candidate agreed to make the position full time immediately. Nexus Point managed the negotiation smoothly and quickly and a base salary, bonus and equity was agreed with success fees upon completing a successful IPO.
